Virginia Tech, Miami, Florida State lose: ACC should just cancel its championship game

Memo to Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford:

Just go ahead and cancel the ACC Championship Game.

There’s not a team in the league good enough to play in it.

Which cupcake will end up on top of the ACC standings?

If you thought nobody came to the ACC (Almost Competitive Conference) title game when it was held in the State of Florida, what’s it going to be like this year in Charlotte?

Seriously, we are coming off the worst day in the ACC since Matt Doherty was hired to coach North Carolina’s basketball team.

Let’s review the carnage from Saturday:

Virginia Tech loses to Division I-AA James Madison 21-16.

Florida State gets pounded 47-17 by Oklahoma.

Miami self-destructs and gets manhandled 36-24 by Ohio State.

Georgia Tech loses 28-25 to Kansas — a team that lost 6-3 to Division I-AA North Dakota State last week.

And it’s a good thing UCF didn’t insert freshman quarterback Jeff Godfrey a little sooner Saturday or the Knights probably would have rallied to beat North Carolina State, too.

Wow, after two weeks of the season,  the ACC is already pretty much out of the hunt for a national championship.

And to think, this was supposed to be the year the ACC started turning around its football fortunes. Instead, the league looks weaker than ever.

Repeat after me:

ACC = BAD.
